Position Summary

We are looking for some candidates for the position of Assistant Director (Database and Backup Administrator)

Job Responsibilities

1. Database Design and Architecture

  • Design and implement scalable database architectures based on institutional and research needs.
  • Develop optimized data storage and retrieval solutions.
  • Standardize DBMS processes to ensure consistency and reliability.


2. Performance Tuning and Optimization

  • Continuously monitor database performance and apply advanced optimization techniques such as indexing and query tuning.
  • Troubleshoot slow queries, resolve deadlocks, and optimize server resources.


3. Data Migration

  • Plan and execute secure data migrations during system upgrades or environment transitions.
  • Ensure integrity, security, and continuity throughout the process.


4. Database Upgradation

  • Plan and carry out version upgrades with minimal system downtime.
  • Ensure backward compatibility and integration with existing applications.


5. Clustering, Backup & Recovery

  • Implement database clustering and high-availability solutions.
  • Design robust backup strategies with scheduled and verified backups.
  • Develop and test disaster recovery plans to ensure data resilience.


6. Security Management

  • Enforce database-level access controls, encryption standards, and audit policies.
  • Conduct security assessments and ensure full compliance with university and regulatory requirements.


7. Database Maintenance

  • Perform regular maintenance including patching, index rebuilding, and data cleanup.
  • Automate repetitive maintenance tasks to reduce manual intervention.


8. Consulting and Advising

  • Provide expert advice on database platforms, performance improvements, and backup tools.
  • Support departments in selecting database technologies that align with operational goals.


9. Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation on database infrastructure, processes, and backup policies.
  • Generate detailed reports on performance, backup health, and system audits.


10. Collaboration

  • Work closely with IT teams, developers, and academic departments to ensure robust data services.
  • Participate in technical planning and infrastructure development discussions.


11. Compliance and Standards

  • Ensure systems adhere to industry best practices and institutional data governance standards.
  • Maintain full compliance with regulatory frameworks such as GDPR or HIPAA, where applicable.

Required Educational Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE)
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE)
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Software Engineering (SWE)
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Information and Communication Engineering(ICE)
  • BSc. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering
Additional Qualifications

Professional Certification:

  • Microsoft SQL Server Certification with over 6 years of hands-on experience in managing, tuning, and supporting large-scale MSSQL database environments.
  • Oracle Certified DBA (Mandatory), demonstrating in-depth knowledge and proven skills in Oracle database architecture, administration, performance tuning, and recovery.
  • Additional Certifications in: PostgreSQL/ MySQL /Cloud Database Management (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or equivalent)
  • Backup and Recovery Expertise with enterprise-grade tools: Veritas NetBackup/ Veeam Backup & Replication/ Symantec Backup Exec


Experience:

  • Minimum 6 years of professional experience in database administration and backup management.
  • Proven hands-on experience in managing enterprise-level databases ( MSSQL) and high-availability (HA) systems.


Additional Requirements:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Proficient communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong understanding of database security and compliance practices (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Required Skills
  • Expertise in database management systems: MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle
  • Strong hands-on experience with backup and recovery tools
  • Deep understanding of database performance tuning, security management, and HA clustering
  • Familiarity with automation tools for database maintenance
  • Strong command over data migration planning, disaster recovery, and compliance management
